Trossachs Search and Rescue's Stuart Ballantyne will be cycling 200 miles of the Outer Hebrides for Trossachs Search and Rescue because "it's a unique SAR service, deserving support."
Stuart is also commemorating the 1st anniversary of former work colleague George Morrison's death by cycling the entire length of the Outer Hebrides to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Trossachs Search and Rescue Team.
Elaine - George's wife, who is also a former colleague, is the inspiration for this sponsored cycle and will by cycling too! My wife Joanne, also a former member of the same profession will drive our back-up vehicle for the trip.
Macmillan nurses were hugely supportive of George and Elaine when he was undergoing years of treatment for cancer.
Trossachs Search and Rescue is a unique organisation which delivers lifesaving training by way of free CPR and AED classes - 1,163 people trained in 2016, maintains 105 public access defibrillators across Loch Lomond and The Trossachs - which have saved six lives in four years, provides rescue boat services and provides the Urban SAR dogs that located all concealed casualties at Stockline and The Clutha disasters in Glasgow. Trossachs Search and Rescue Team also provide the local First Responder service in the area.
Trossachs Search and Rescue Team is NOT a mountain rescue team and therefore has to raise ALL monies itself. The team operates anywhere required and has participated in searches in the Outer Hebrides for two missing men, from separate incidents on several occasions.
The 200 hundred miles will be completed over the course of one week starting at Vatersay in the south on Monday 8 May 2017 and ending at The Butt of Lewis to the north on the Monday 15 May 2017.
