We're sad to announce retired Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Dog Mitch has passed away, aged 14.
As one of Scotland's few USAR Dogs, he attended many searches over the years for Scotland's legacy Fire and Rescue Services - Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service and Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service and also the current Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Mitch also attended callouts with HM Coastguard and Police Scotland and travelled in his rescue role as far as the Outer Hebrides and Johnshaven.
Away from his rescue role he met The Hoff in Glasgow, was one of our dogs who received a standing ovation from the audience at the Stand Up for The Clutha show given their work at the Clutha tragedy, appeared in Bollywood film Tum Bin 2 and most recently appeared as a guest on STV2 show Live at 5.
Mitch had many friends across the country and many of them were practising Muslims from the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society including his good friend Shabir Beg. Other friends in Glasgow included Rev Neil Galbraith at Cathcart Old Parish Church where Mitch attended many services.
Mitch has also received the K9 Memorial Dog of the Day which is a great recognition of his service and the team are honoured that Mitch received this.
RIP Big Mitch you've earned your rest and you will be sadly missed by people across the country.
Mitch will live on in our hearts and on the team's logo.
Our thoughts also go to Stuart, Mitch's Handler, during this sad time.
